After many years spent caring for people as a medical professional, Denise Stewart established Plant Therapy. As well as taking calls from listeners on local radio phone-ins, Denise mans the National Institute of Medical Herbalists’ Helpline, providing information and advice on healthcare throughout the UK. Denise not only has medical qualifications from her nursing days, but also a BSc(Hons) in Herbal medicine, and a long-standing interest in natural healthcare and people. This means she understands how conventional and herbal medicines can work together, and can offer sound, helpful advice. Whenever required, she makes up custom preparations by hand, to fit the symptoms of individual patients, usually following a consultation.
The consultation
At your first consultation Denise will ask you about your medical history, currently prescribed medications, family history, diet and lifestyle factors, exercise and recreation. The consultation will include any relevant physical examination, such as checking your blood pressure, or making a further referral if appropriate.
Follow up consultations are usually two weeks to one month after the initial consultation and will take approximately half an hour. Treatment is reviewed and any further queries addressed.
Treatment may include advice about diet and lifestyle as well as any herbal preparations usually in the form of tinctures, teas or capsules. Following a consultation any herbal remedies that are provided are specifically mixed to suit each individual patient.
